Introduction
Being a strong class in the game, the Fire/Poison Magician manipulates the raw power of magic to launch fire arrows and poison bombs at enemies. This 2nd Job Advancement has much stronger attacks, with spells such as Fire Arrow. the Fire/Poison Wizard takes the offensive in the world of MapleStory. When combined with the skills of a typical 1st Job Advancement Magician, including Magic Claw and Magic Guard, both required for certain tasks, you create the ultimate Magician.Fire/Poison Wizards are just Pure Raw Damage. Nothing else.
Pros/Cons
Pros
- Strongest (previously) Single Target Damage Spell
- Fire Element, more monsters weak to fire than Ice
- Great solo capabilities
- Uncommon class choice
- Excellent Mob Skills at Level 70
- Fire Arrow now does same damage to up to 3 monsters and is no longer affected by terrain (plus it looks like a freaking missile)
Cons
- Poison effect considered less effective than freeze (this is a misconception; when training, poison is the strongest ability any class can have when used correctly)
- May have trouble joining parties
- Fire Arrow has lost some of its ability to target monsters diagonally
Becoming the Fire/Poison Wizard
Go talk to Grendel the Really Old. He’ll tell you that you can choose a new path, and to go meet his instructor. Get a good stock of Orange Potions and Mana Elixirs. Go three maps north of Ellinia, and find the first tree dungeon closest to the ground. Go all the way up the tree, and then take the ropes up to the magician instructor. Talk to the Magic Instructor. You’ll be teleported into a new map, with Curse Eyes and Horny Mushrooms that are more powerful than their normal counterparts you see in the wild, and don’t drop anything but dark marbles. Make sure to pick them up, as you will need to give them to the Magic Instructor in order to finish the quest.
When fighting these monsters, be careful because you’ll usually be on a slope, which makes them harder to aim at. Try to stay at the low end of the slope, because Magic Claw isn’t blocked by terrain. Don’t be gratuitous in your fighting, especially if you have a limit on HP pots, threre probably won't be any places to heal up HP, and very few to heal MP. Think before you shoot. If there's a mob, contrary to your style of 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 fighting, get on the high end of the slope (if you're on a slope) because the monsters will be slower getting up, so you have more chances to shoot them before they reach you.
Always take out the monster closest to you, and don't jump off of the slimy ladders, climb all the way down them. If you were particularly lucky in equip drops at Zombie Mushrooms, and have tons of pots, and are more concerned with time than with saving money, then ignore all that and go to the bottom of the map, and kill everything as fast as possible, without care to your pot count. Just make sure you don't die; you can often forget that you’re at low health in critical situations. Give the dark marbles (30 of them) you recently aquired to the Magic Instructor. Then go back and talk to Grendel, choose fire-poison wizard as your choice.
Congratulations, your now a Fire/Poison Wizard!
Skills of an Fire/Poison Wizard
- Main article: Category:Wizard (Fire/Poison) Skills
MP Eater Master Level: 20
Absorbs a percentage of an enemy's MP. However, if the enemy runs out of MP, this skill does nothing.
- Type: Passive
- Prerequisites: None.
- Level 1: 11% chance of success, absorbs 21% of total MP
- Level 20: 30% chance of success, absorbs 40% of total MP
Meditation Master Level: 20
Raises the party's Magic Attack for a period of time.
- Type: Supportive
- Prerequisites: 3 in MP Eater
- Level 1: MP-10, +1 M.ATK, 10 seconds.
- Level 20: MP-20, +20 M.ATK, 200 seconds.
An extremely useful buff, boosts your spell damage significantly. Most people max this after Fire Arrow.
Teleport Master Level: 20
Instantly moves the character a distance in a certain direction.
- Type: Supportive
- Prerequisites: None.
- Level 1: MP-60, with 130 in distance.
- Level 20: MP-13, with 150 in distance.
Very useful skill in combat, as well as saving time. High mana cost at level one though. Can be used to perform Blink-Strikes on unsuspecting enemies. More about it below.
Slow Master Level: 20
Slows down the monsters around you for a period of time. Can slow up to 6 monsters at a time.
- Type: Supportive
- Prerequisites: 5 in Teleport
- Level 1: MP-8, speed-2, 2 seconds.
- Level 20: MP-16, speed-40, 40 seconds.
Fire Arrow Master Level: 30
Fires a flame arrow at up to 3 enemies. Does not go through walls/floors.
- Type: Active
- Prerequisites: None.
- Level 1: MP-14, 33 attack, 15% mastery.
- Level 30: MP-28, 120 attack, 60% mastery.
Your main offensive spell as a Fire/Poison Wizard. You should max this first.
Poison Breath Master Level: 30
Shoots a poison bubble at a single enemy target.
- Type: Active
- Prerequisites: None.
- Level 1: MP-10; Basic attack 12, mastery 15%, 31% success rate, poison for 4 secs
- Level 30: MP-20; Basic attack 70, mastery 60%, 60% success rate, poison for 40 secs
Most people think this is a rather useless spell, as there is a much better AOE counterpart at lvl 70. It is fun to play with though, but not recommended. This skill CAN come in preposterously handy when training at places like Twisted Jesters since maxed poison will reduce any non-immune monster's HP to 1 within 40 seconds.
Your Role as a Fire/Poison Wizard
Now that you are finally a Fire/Poison Wizard, a whole new world is now opened to you. Your role is mainly to dish out as much damage as possible to single enemy targets. The Fire/Poison, now has an offensive mob skill, with the same damage as a powerful single target spell is one of the best mobbing skills that is available for all classes at second job.
Remember to make use of your elemental advantage, by training mainly at Ice-Based Monsters.
